Product details
Product characteristics
The phyCORE-i.MX 8M Plus is a compact system-on-module (SoM) based on the NXP i.MX 8M Plus, featuring up to four Cortex-A53 cores and one Cortex-M7 for real-time applications. A Neural Processing Unit with 2,3 TOPS, the Tensilica HiFi 4 DSP, and integrated image signal and 3D/2D graphics accelerators provide ample performance for AI, audio, and video projects. As an FTGA solderable module, the SoM measures 40 × 37 × 3 mm and is designed for a temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C. Its 3,3 V power supply enables energy-efficient operation in space-constrained embedded designs.
Powerful AI and multimedia acceleration
With a 2,3 TOPS NPU, the module enables AI inference and machine vision without external accelerators. The Tensilica DSP and integrated 3D GPU support demanding audio, image, and graphics processing. The image signal processor allows the connection of cameras up to 12 megapixels, while the H.265/4 video codec encodes and decodes in 1080p60. This makes the SoM suitable for intelligent vision, speech, and multimedia applications in embedded systems.
Areas of Application:
Industrial networking & real-time communication
Two Gigabit Ethernet ports with TSN functionality, along with USB 3.0, PCIe 3.0, and CAN FD, support industrial communication standards. Additional peripheral interfaces such as I²C, SPI, UART, and PWM further expand connectivity. LVDS, MIPI DSI-2, and HDMI enable display connections, while MIPI CSI-2 and SAI facilitate the integration of cameras and audio devices. The integrated Cortex-M7 provides real-time capabilities for control applications.
FTGA soldering module & Samtec connectors
This variant utilizes an FTGA solder module with a 1,27 mm pitch and a height of only 3 mm, enabling particularly low-profile and robust integration. For users who prefer pluggable connections, a version with Samtec connectors is available. Both variants offer up to 8 GB of LPDDR4, 64 GB of eMMC, and 256 MB of SPI-NOR flash memory, as well as a precise real-time clock and temperature monitoring. The choice between solder and pluggable options provides maximum flexibility in carrier board development.
Software
The phyCORE-i.MX 8M Plus supports both a Yocto-based Linux distribution and Android. These operating systems utilize the SoM's hardware accelerators and provide drivers for all interfaces. Security features such as CAAM cryptographic units, TrustZone, Secure Boot, and a random number generator ensure the protection of sensitive data. User-friendly BSPs and configuration tools simplify system integration and long-term maintenance.
