i.MX 95 family: AI and vision power for cutting-edge applications

The i.MX 95 processor family from NXP Semiconductors is designed for edge systems, machine vision, and AI-accelerated applications that require fast and reliable real-time decision-making. It combines Arm Cortex-A55 cores with Arm Cortex-M7 and -M33 co-processors, a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for AI computations, an Image Signal Processor (ISP), and integrated camera interfaces.

By combining AI, vision, and cloud functionality, the i.MX 95 enables real-time processing of sensor data and local decision-making in applications such as robotics, autonomous vehicles, and industrial automation. Advanced security features and broad software support make the i.MX 95 family a powerful and future-proof platform for smart, connected edge systems.

The phyFLEX‑SoM – modular, robust and future-proof

Thanks to the pin compatibility between the i.MX 95 and i.MX 952, systems initially developed with the i.MX 952 can later be easily migrated to the more powerful i.MX 95 – without any changes to the carrier board. Furthermore, the shared FPSC architecture makes the module compatible with other phyFLEX Gamma modules.Productsn, such as the phyFLEX-i.MX 8M Plus, and thus remains future-proof and interchangeable in the long term.

phyFLEX‑i.MX 95 vs. phyFLEX‑i.MX 952

The i.MX 95 and i.MX 952 are fully pin-compatible, but differ in performance and features. With up to six Cortex-A55 cores (2,0 GHz), an NPU with up to 2 TOPS, and 84 GFLOPS of GPU performance, the i.MX 95 offers significantly more computing and AI power than the i.MX 952, which has up to four cores (1,7 GHz), a 0,5 TOPS NPU, and a 54 GFLOPS GPU. The i.MX 95 also supports faster interfaces such as 10 Gigabit Ethernet, two PCIe Gen 3 lanes, and dual 4-lane camera interfaces. However, both processors share the same security concept, the integrated ISP with 500 MP/s and the Cortex-M7/M33 cores for real-time control – and can therefore be used seamlessly on the same phyFLEX module.

Graphics and vision skills

The i.MX 95 and i.MX 952 processors combine cutting-edge AI, graphics, and vision technologies in a scalable platform for intelligent edge systems. With the integrated eIQ Neutron NPU, they deliver specialized AI acceleration directly on the device – from 0,5 TOPS (in the i.MX 952) to 2 TOPS (in the i.MX 95). Combined with the eIQ software framework, the platform supports standard models such as TensorFlow Lite, ONNX, and PyTorch for local, data-driven decision-making. Furthermore, the Arm Mali G310 GPU offers impressive 3D performance and supports up to three displays simultaneously, including 4K via MIPI-DSI and two Full HD displays via LVDS. Finally, the integrated ISP enables the parallel processing of multiple camera inputs at up to 500 MP/s. High-resolution image data can be efficiently processed via MIPI-CSI interfaces – ideal for visual inspection or robotics applications.
