Extra cores – extra chances:
3rd PHYTEC User Forum on May 14

Mainz, April 10, 2025
Under the motto "Extra Cores – Extra Opportunities," the 14rd Phytec User Forum will take place on May 2025, 3. Experts from Phytec and partner companies will present the latest developments in embedded processors and coprocessors, discuss the optimal integration of various processing units, and discuss their use in image processing, security applications, and AI. Interested parties can now register free of charge for the event at the Phytec Technology Campus in Mainz.
OpenAMP, real-time Linux and SIL-certified embedded hardware
The presentations combine practical expertise with information on current technologies. Jonas Remmert and Peter Fecher, both developers at Phytec, will demonstrate how the M-cores of modern Linux SoCs can be used for real-time applications. The focus will be on the interaction with Linux on the main processor, suitable software stacks, and how the OpenAMP framework facilitates communication between the cores.
"Linux and Hard Real Time" is also the topic of the guest presentation by Phytec partner IBV. The company, which specializes in software engineering for real-time and embedded systems, will present the opportunities offered by SoCs with real-time cores, using the TI AM64x as an example.
Safety functionalities can also be handled by coprocessors. Nicholas MrGuire of OpenTech EDV Research explains how this enables SIL certification and the limitations of the safety island approach in the IT TDA4VE (AM68x).
Image processing with IP cores and AI on embedded hardware
In addition to technologies and background information, specific applications are another focus. Martin Klahr, Head of Image Processing at Phytec, will demonstrate how utilizing IP cores enables efficient image processing on embedded systems. Dr. Jan Werth will then speak about TOPS, FPS, and the specific challenges of using AI algorithms on embedded hardware.
Exchange with developers and experts
The user forum also focuses on exchanging ideas through expert discussions. The breaks and the evening program offer opportunities for this – as does the entire day of Thursday, May 15.05, during which individual appointments can be arranged. Registration for this, as well as for the public user forum, is now open via the website.
