Modular electronic components for AC/DC charging stations

Mainz, February 29, 2024

Faster access to charging station electronics or controllers for EV charging parks: Phytec now offers modular electronic components with comprehensive pre-services. The offering ranges from development kits for direct entry into development to design-optimized system-on-modules for charging controllers to the new phyVERSO-EVCS, an OEM charging controller including a software stack from partner Pionix. The solutions are suitable for charging stations with AC/DC charging technology as well as for megawatt charging. The latest protocols such as V2G, PLC, and OCPP are supported.

Advance services save time and costs

Technologies for electromobility and charging infrastructure are evolving rapidly. Charging station providers must keep pace, meet requirements for communication, remote control, and security, and differentiate themselves from the competition through innovation and functionality. Phytec's offering supports companies by incorporating smart grid capability, compliance with the Cyber Resilience Act, and features such as cloud connectivity and device management into the hardware and software design. These advance services shorten the time to series production, save costs, and reduce the risk of design errors.

phyVERSO-EVCS: High-performance OEM charging controller

With the phyVERSO-EVCS, Phytec offers the highest level of expansion: an electronics platform for charging controllers that supports standards such as V2G, PLC, and OCPP and comes preconfigured with the Pionix EVerest / BaseCamp Charger OS. The framework supports numerous protocols for integration with infrastructure, vehicles, payment systems, etc. Load management and remote access are also already integrated and prepared into the electronics. Interfaces, design, and functionality can be customized to meet customer requirements – thanks to the modular design, this can be done quickly and without high development costs. The phyVERSO-EVCS is currently based on the AM62x processor from Texas Instruments. A variant with the NXP i.MX93 is under development.

Hardware and software for industrial requirements

Phytec's System-on-Modules, optimized for charging controllers, are available with state-of-the-art processors from NXP, Texas Instruments, and ST Microelectronics. They are characterized by robust design, industrial-grade components, and guaranteed long-term availability. Modules with a pin-compatible footprint, such as the NXP i.MX 6UL/ULL, STM32MP13x, and NXP i.MX 91/93 processors, enable scalable product variants and upgrades without redesigning the baseboard. Phytec offers development kits for each of the processors. Featuring a customized board support package, commissioning guarantee, and comprehensive FAE support, these enable prototypes to be built in the shortest possible time.
