PHYTEC at embedded world:
The vision integration platform phyVIP reduces development effort by up to 70 percent.
- Processor, camera connection, security and interfaces on one baseboard
- With NXP i.MX 8M Plus or i.MX 95 processor, optionally with AI accelerators
- Separate connector/expansion boards for customization and integration

Mainz, March 05, 2026
At embedded world (Nuremberg trade fair, March 10–12, 2026), Phytec will present phyVIP for the first time – a powerful vision integration platform that reduces the development effort for embedded vision projects by up to 70 percent.
The compact baseboard combines an ARM processor, camera connectivity, security features, and industrial interfaces in a ready-to-use design. The unique aspect: a separate connector and expansion board allows for the individual implementation of connectors and special functions. This accelerates development, reduces risks, and provides maximum design freedom.
The phyVIP can be configured with either an NXP i.MX 8M Plus or i.MX 95 processor and is optionally available with a Hailo 8 or Kinara ARA 2 AI accelerator. A complete Linux BSP with integrated drivers for all functions ensures a quick project start. Initial samples of the phyVIP will be available in Q2 2026, along with a connector board for prototyping.
Central vision functions fully integrated
The phyVIP takes the established approach of embedded designs with system-on-modules a step further: In addition to processor, memory, power supply, and WLAN, the fully industrial-grade phyVIP also integrates camera connectivity in hardware and software, as well as security functions, on a compact board. The complex vision integration is thus completely finished, allowing project-specific development effort to be reduced by up to 70 percent compared to traditional embedded vision developments.
Customization with connector/expansion boards
A custom connector and expansion board allows the electronics to be adapted to the required interfaces and functionalities. This board can be developed and produced very easily, quickly, and cost-effectively. Complex circuit components are already integrated on the phyVIP. The connector/expansion board is connected to the phyVIP using board-to-board connectors.
Scalable computing power with AI acceleration
For customizable computing power, the phyVIP base module can be configured with either an NXP i.MX 8M Plus or i.MX 95 processor. For additional AI computing power, variants with the Hailo 8 AI accelerator chip (26 TOPS) or the Kinara ARA-2 (40 TOPS) are available. Furthermore, a TPM chip and other security features are integrated to meet regulatory requirements such as CRA compliance. The modular architecture also allows for future upgrades of the phyVIP module without requiring redesign of the connector board.
Flexible integration of embedded cameras
Up to two board-level cameras from Phytec's product range can be directly connected to the phyVIP baseboard. They can be flexibly positioned and connected to the electronics via FFC cables. The necessary drivers are integrated into the Linux BSP. Phytec offers compatible lenses for the cameras – including the option of supplying fully assembled and calibrated optics.
Phytec develops and produces embedded systems on modules, processor boards, and complete systems for industrial series production in Mainz. The company, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, also offers comprehensive services – from the development of customized hardware and software to embedded imaging integration, security, update, and device management.
