Phytec at Power2Drive:
Modular electronics for EV charging
and energy management
- Individual charging controllers, system-on-modules and ready-to-use solutions
- Modular design – for fast, cost-effective development and scalability
- Custom carrier boards for chargebyte Charge SOM

Mainz, June 09, 2026
At Power2Drive Europe (June 23-25.6, Messe München), Phytec will demonstrate how EV charging solutions and energy management systems can be developed and produced simply, quickly, and cost-effectively. The foundation of their offering is a modular system for customized electronics. It is suitable for AC and DC charging solutions as well as high-power charging (HPC). Phytec will also present its scalable System-on-Modules (SOMs) with ARM processors and a Linux operating system. These provide the computing power for charging controllers and form the basis for customer-specific electronics. Customized charging controllers based on the Charge SOM from Phytec partner chargebyte, as well as ready-to-use OEM solutions for a wide range of energy management applications, will also be on display at the booth.

Open ecosystem and full control
Phytec's custom charging controllers are characterized by their open, scalable design and an ecosystem of open-source software. They can be extended with customer-specific functionalities, such as the integration of display and operator panel control. This simplifies the architecture of the entire charging solution, saves on development and production costs, and reduces the effort required for lifecycle management. Customers gain full control over their electronics, without dependence on the manufacturer. Developing a custom charging controller typically takes only about ten weeks from specification to the first prototype.
Individual charging controllers for chargebyte Charge SOM
Full control over hardware and software without vendor lock-in applies to Phytec's custom electronics as well as to the custom charging controllers that Phytec develops based on the chargebyte Charge SOM. This is a universal EVCS-on module for DC and AC charging controllers. It integrates all relevant components, such as the processor, powerline communication, safety shutdown, and network technologies, onto a compact circuit board. An operating system is also part of the Charge SOM, based on EVerest, an open-source software stack and project of the Linux Foundation. In conjunction with a carrier board, the module forms a complete charging controller that meets all requirements for AC and DC charging, including ISO 15118, Plug&Charge, and bidirectional charging. Firmware maintenance is included in the hardware price. At the same time, the open-source software allows companies to influence the system themselves at any time and create their own modified or extended version of the firmware stack. The risk of vendor lock-in is eliminated here as well. A Charge SOM Evaluation Kit, jointly developed by Phytec and chargebyte, enables direct entry into prototyping and development with the Charge SOM.
Ready-to-use solutions for charging solutions and energy management
At the Phytec booth at Power2Drive, you can also see ready-made OEM solutions for a wide range of applications related to EV charging and energy management. Thanks to their modular hardware and software design, these solutions can be customized to specific customer needs and are available with or without an enclosure. Comprehensive security features and update and device management functions enable direct integration into industrial series production.
