Bender GmbH & Co. KG is a medium-sized family business that operates worldwide and is a successful pioneer and market leader for electrical safety products and solutions. 

Electronic products – especially if they are safety-related – have to be updated regularly: This also applies to the COMTRAXX CP9xx series alarm indicator and operator panels from Bender.

Together with Phytec, a special migration path was decided: the development of a module that enables the use of a new processor without having to change the mainboard. The goals were higher computing power, long-term availability and the creation of the basis for future new developments. 

 

The embedded solution from Phytec

  • Development of a mapper board that provides the connectors of the phyCORE-i.MX 6 module related to the pin muxing of the Bender applications on its underside. A phyCORE-i.MX 8M Plus module is soldered directly to the top of the mapper
     
  • The graphics innovations of the i.MX 8M Plus were implemented by translating the MIPI signals to the parallel interface of the original design

In close cooperation with the development engineers from Phytec, a concept was developed and implemented that also allows the use of the phyCORE-i.MX 8M Plus module with existing Bender base boards. This was initially preceded by a feasibility study: Phytec is particularly well-known for its intensive and customer-oriented service even before the start of the project.
